Mysterious dreams, special characters, fascinating places – there is no end for profound resources to inspire a remarkable and unique band name. Well in this uplifting case two best friends were eating some terrible burgers in a low-key ghosted fast food restaurant at 2 AM and accidentally found a phone application which generates invented band names. „Foyl aka” popped up, and bam, the baby was born...

"Neo soul meets jazz" - All songs of FOYL AKA are written by Hungarian vocalist Maja Mágedli and Estonian piano player Mathei Florea, the two have been lucky enough to discover that they inspire and perfectly complement each other's musical approach in composing and arranging which clearly reflects in their repertoire too.

The band furthermore consists Max Feig on guitar, Conrad Steinhoff on electric bass and David Guy on drums. Foyl Aka first met at the renowned Jazz Institute Berlin (UdK) and they have quickly realized how smooth, natural and thrilling it feels to create a soft yet grooving sound together. These compositions are influenced by mostly neo soul in a jazz context; though the group does not intend to limit its genres and is excited to build an own little world without clear musical boundaries.

Mathei Florea New Grounds is an eight-member Berlin based modern-nordic jazz band. When combining standard jazz quartet with strings it becomes a musical delight – a mixture of modern jazz and classical music. The founder and leader of this group is a talented pianist Mathei Florea. Compositions are greatly inspired by Petros Klampanis and Arvo Pärt.

Mathei Florea New Grounds is a group founded in Berlin in winter 2019. The band consists of Mathei Florea, Alvise Carli, Aleksandra Błachno-Kulig, Philine Höhnisch, Kornelia Jamborowicz, Björn Atle Anfinsen, Cookie Stephenson, and Johannes Metzger. Berlin's art scene has definitely enraptured and inspired all the musicians. It is the city where they all met and also recorded their music.

In April 2020, the band released their first tune, "Notched Trees," along with a live video. The band proceeded to record their first album at Jazzanova Studio, located in Berlin, during 2022. Their 2024 album Snap, recorded at Berlin’s renowned JRS Studios, received wide critical acclaim, earning titles such as Album of the Week on SWR Kultur and Album of the Month on Tallinn Radio. In 2025, following a performance at the Jazzkaar Festival with Gilad Hekselman, the ensemble was named Estonia’s Best Jazz Ensemble, a recognition that reflects their evolving artistic journey and collaborative spirit.

Flow Rea represents an exciting collective brimming with creative energy and innovation. The trio is led by internationally backgrounded pianist Mathei Florea, whose music blends his classical education with the rich world of jazz. Alongside him, talented musicians Joosep Talumaa and Dmitri Nikolajevski contribute their diverse experience and distinctive skills, creating a truly unique sound for the ensemble.

Flow Rea’s creative process is built on synergy and openness, where each member’s ideas are given space to grow into something extraordinary. Their music is a sophisticated blend of hip-hop, soul, and jazz, inspired by artists such as Alfa Mist and Yussef Dayes.

The band made their first major mark with the debut single and music video “Pulse”, released in November 2024 — a project created in collaboration with MUBA Studio and filmmaker Teet Raik, which brought a fresh and distinctive sound to the Estonian music scene.

In August 2025, Flow Rea released their debut album Pulse under Nanana label, a culmination of their shared vision, creativity, and passion for contemporary jazz.
